It was a pleasure once again to anchor a prime community event alongside my exceptional colleague, MC Mark, at the CANUK Annual Gala Dinner.

The evening was nothing short of outstanding, bringing together an esteemed gathering of community leaders and key stakeholders, including Mayors, representatives of His Majesty King Charles, United Nations delegates, the Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), and representatives of Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, among many others.

It was a night of elegance, cultural splendour, and unity, beautifully showcasing the richness of Nigerian heritage while celebrating collective progress and excellence. The success of the evening would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated sponsors and partners, whose commitment continues to strengthen the Nigerian community in the UK.

As we reflect on this remarkable night, we eagerly look forward to another impactful year of unity, collaboration, and growth within the Nigerian diaspora.

📸 Photos from the event will be available on www.canukonline.com and RoseOnAllSides.com.

🙏🎉🎊🔥🥳🎶💃🥰

If you’re planning an event and would like a host who understands structure, culture, and flow, I’d be happy to connect.

What Makes a Great MC (Beyond Holding a Microphone)

Choosing an MC is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning an event, yet it’s often misunderstood.

Many people assume a great MC is simply someone who can speak well, sound confident, or keep the room entertained. While those things matter, true professional hosting goes far beyond holding a microphone.

A great MC doesn’t just speak, they lead, protect, and elevate your event.

It Starts With Reading the Room

Before an MC ever speaks, they observe.

A great MC pays attention to:

*The audience demographic

*The mood in the room

*Cultural and social dynamics

The level of formality required

An intimate milestone celebration requires a very different tone from a corporate conference or civic event. Knowing how to adjust, seamlessly, is a skill that comes with experience and emotional intelligence.

Timing Is Everything

One of the biggest differences between an average MC and a great one is timing.

A professional MC knows:

When to move the programme forward

When to pause

When to shorten or extend a segment.

When to step in, and when to step back.

Good timing keeps guests engaged, speakers comfortable, and the event flowing naturally without feeling rushed or dragged.

Structure Without Stiffness

A well-hosted event should feel organised, but never rigid.

A great MC provides:

*Clear transitions

*Confident direction

*A sense of order

*All while maintaining warmth, ease, and approachability.

Guests should feel guided, not managed.

Respect for People, Protocol, and Purpose.

Professional hosting requires respect, for people and for context.

This includes:

Correct pronunciation of names.

*Proper use of titles and honours

*Understanding cultural or organisational protocol

*Knowing the purpose of the gathering

*When these details are handled properly, everyone in the room feels valued and at ease.

Calm Presence Under Pressure

Things don’t always go to plan, and that’s where a great MC truly stands out.

A seasoned MC remains:

*Calm when schedules change

*Composed when delays occur

*Confident when adjustments are needed

Guests may never notice the challenges behind the scenes, and that’s exactly how it should be.

Protecting the Event Host

Perhaps the most important role of an MC is protecting the host.

This means:

*Keeping the programme on track

*Managing transitions professionally

*Ensuring the spotlight remains where it belongs

*Creating a safe, respectful atmosphere

When hosts can relax and enjoy their own event, the MC has done their job well.

Final Thoughts

A great MC is not the loudest voice in the room.

They are the steady presence that holds everything together.

Beyond the microphone lies preparation, professionalism, sensitivity, and care, the qualities that turn a good event into a memorable one.

If you’re looking for a host who understands the balance between structure and warmth, confidence and grace, I’d be happy to connect.

Honoured to MC the historic first-ever #EdoStateGlobalSummit held in #Glasgow, #Scotland, a landmark event celebrating vision, progress, and global collaboration.

With the distinguished Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in attendance alongside his high-powered delegation, the summit truly marked a new chapter of global engagement for Edo State.

Proud moment to see it featured on Arise News! 🌍🎥✨

Black men in the United Kingdom face a significantly elevated risk of developing prostate cancer compared to men of other ethnic backgrounds. Current statistics indicate that approximately one in four Black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime.

It is for this compelling reason that Topaz Club UK proudly selected the Errol McKeller Foundation- the Sit and Talk Prostate Cancer Awareness Charity as its chosen cause for this year’s Topaz Winter Charity Ball.

Pictured are Dr Errol McKeller, passionately outlining the far-reaching and impactful work his foundation continues to deliver within Black communities; the esteemed NHS Consultant, Dr Nnaemeka Eli, offering invaluable guidance on preventative measures and early intervention; and my exceptional co-host for the evening, the immensely talented IPraise.

The night was a dazzling celebration of elegance, purpose, and social responsibility, a memorable fusion of glitz and glamour with a powerful message. Above all, it served as a vital reminder that early detection saves lives. Proactive testing is essential and strongly encouraged.
